A little something about worship

Tonight at church I was touched by the lyrics of one of the songs that were played during worship. The lyrics are great and I found myself in a place of worshiping God that I couldn't help but to praise Him and thank Him for all He has done in my life.

"I Will Rise"

There's a peace I've come to know
Though my heart and flesh may fail
There's an anchor for my soul
I can say "It is well"

Jesus has overcome
And the grave is overwhelmed
The victory is won
He is risen from the dead

[Chorus:]
And I will rise when He calls my name
No more sorrow, no more pain
I will rise on eagles' wings
Before my God fall on my knees
And rise
I will rise

There's a day that's drawing near
When this darkness breaks to light
And the shadows disappear
And my faith shall be my eyes

Jesus has overcome
And the grave is overwhelmed
The victory is won
He is risen from the dead

[Chorus:]
And I will rise when He calls my name
No more sorrow, no more pain
I will rise on eagles' wings
Before my God fall on my knees
And rise
I will rise

And I hear the voice of many angels sing,
"Worthy is the Lamb"
And I hear the cry of every longing heart,
"Worthy is the Lamb"
[x2]

[Chorus:]
And I will rise when He calls my name
No more sorrow, no more pain
I will rise on eagles' wings
Before my God fall on my knees
And rise
I will rise

I encourage you tonight to worship the Lord, in spirit and in truth. Worship is so much more than just singing a song at church or while you're driving your car, it is a daily attitude. I am reminded of John 4:23 and I leave you with this for tonight:

Yet a time is coming and has now come when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for they are the kind of worshipers the Father seeks.

  1. Great song and insights. I've been meaning to blog about worship for a while from the angle of Matthew. The Sermon on the Mount implies true worship is humble piety but also ethics. So true worship is concerned with God and other humans. Later in Matthew, Jesus says that "what you do to the least of these you do to me." So our ethics become our love song to Christ. I'll develop this a little more and post it someday...hopefully.

  2. Will be looking forward to it then
